News of former Vice President Kamala Harris deciding not to run for the gubernatorial race in California has made rounds recently, and analyst Stephen A. Smith had something to say about the issue.
In his video, the ESPN analyst recalled instances in the past where Kamala Harris had a strong chance of winning a position. He even pointed out her recent presidential run in 2024. However, he believes that the loss i the last election may have led to the belief in the camp of Harris that she may no longer have the crowd pull and appeal they once thought she had. However, Smith thinks otherwise of the matter.
“I beg to differ,” he said. “I think she would have had a chance, but she’s entitled to her feelings. She knows what’s best for her, and I wish her nothing but the best.”
“What I will say is this,” he continued. “Respectfully, I hope she’s not pushing aside the race for governor for the state of California because she thinks she has a chance in 2028. I don’t believe that’s the case. I don’t believe that Kamala Harris, nor any Democrat from the old guard, per se, has a chance.”
What the analyst proposed was for a total revamp for the Democratic party, and for the old faces, like Harris herself, to finally make an exit.
“I think the only shot a Democrat has of winning the presidency in 2028 is for there to be complete new blood,” he went on. “The old guard needs to be purged.”

Stephen A. Smith, in the past, had openly stated that he would vote for Kamala Harris. However, following the 2024 elections, the ESPN analyst has expressed regret over his decision and has started blasting Harris and the Democratic Party.
Smith, in the past weeks, has expressed his intent to run for president come 2028. However, he has yet to decide on a party he would run under, as he has also always maintained his stance that he remains to be independent politically.
