Justin Fields is getting a lot of hype this offseason. This is always a time when optimism runs wild amongst analysts and fan bases. Fields has been a hot topic after his improvement last season. Many are projecting another jump this season and are bullish on the Bears. ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky thinks that Justin Fields will be in the MVP conversation this season.

Justin Fields For MVP?
No one is questioning the running ability of Fields. His over 1,100 yards rushing last season was must-see television. The passing ability is what was lacking. He had some truly awful games through the air. Two things have changed this offseason. He has been working with a passion specialist and trying to make strides in that aspect of his game. The Bears also got him some better weapons. DJ Moore came over via trade to go with Chase Claypool and Darnell Mooney. Cole Kmet and Robert Tonyan look to bring some upside to the tight end position. This should help Fields overall and possibly put him in the MVP conversation.

Is The Hype Real?
It is always tricky in the offseason. Every team puts out slow-motion videos of their quarterback throwing beautiful balls to their wide receivers. The issue is that the quarterback is uncontested and there is no coverage. An NFL quarterback should look good performing that task. It is a different story when pass rushers are coming for the quarterback and secondaries are disguising coverage. I have full confidence that you could make a cool video of me throwing a football but if you were to put me in a game situation, I would be toast.
There are still questions the Bears have to answer. The offensive line is improved but there are still massive questions. Claypool and Mooney did not look great last season. While they are further down the depth chart now, can they actually step up and make plays? The defense also has massive questions and could give up a lot of points. If Fields is having to come from behind all the time, it could look good for his stats (and MVP case) but could also force him to make risky throws.
The Chicago Bears are one of the trendy picks to win the NFC North. While the roster has a lot of questions it ultimately comes down to Fields and his development. Can he make another leap?
