The Michigan Wolverines have had quite the interesting quarterback experiment this year that has led to plenty of fans being upset.
The Wolverines did not have incredible, other-worldly quarterback play last season from JJ McCarthy, but to say the 2024 season is a downgrade would be a massive understatement. Between Davis Warren and Alex Orji, the Michigan Wolverines had virtually no production out of the quarterback position.
For a short period of time, there looked like there was light at the end of the quarterback tunnel, however, the loss to Indiana seemingly puts a nail into the coffin. The Michigan Wolverines held the Hoosiers to the lowest point total they have had this season, and still unfortunately lost. The Wolverines averaged less than four-yards per play and punted the football five times in the five-point loss to the Hoosiers.
Following the game, the main player the Michigan Wolverines fans deemed responsible for the loss was Warren. The quarterback has truly struggled this season, and despite some bright spots at times, the quarterback has largely looked unprepared. Many fans have wondered how Warren was able to reach a starting role for the Wolverines given his play on the field.
The quarterback has recorded 731 yards passing, five touchdowns, and six interceptions for the Michigan Wolverines offense. Warren has also recorded a completion percentage of 65.2% as well as a quarterback rating of 63.4 this season. Warren was actually an accomplished runner as well in high school, however, the quarterback does not run the football for the Wolverines due to the use of Orji.
Michigan Wolverines Fans Fed Up With Poor Quarterback Play Throughout 2024
While Warren may not have had the worst game all together against the Indiana Hoosiers, it is the underwhelming production over the course of the season that has tipped fans.
Previously, many Michigan Wolverines fans and college football fans as well had given Warren a break due to his rush to starting status. However, the patience the fans had for Warren has seriously run thin, with many questioning how the quarterback made it to the collegiate level.
Bottom line, Davis Warren is not a high level D1 quarterback. I’m not sure what his high school film looked like to get him here. We needed a QB to put the team on his back today and Warren is simply incapable of doing that. #Michiganfootball

It just really makes you wonder what Jim Harbaugh saw on the high school film of Davis Warren and Alex Orji to offer scholarships. Plus Jayden Denegal. He really couldn’t assess high school QB’s

Gary Danielson, on Davis Warren’s latest mis-thrown, critical pass, “That’s as easy as it gets for a quarterback in the Big Ten.”

If you want accuracy, watch Jaxson Dart
If you want arm talent, watch Shedeur Sanders
If you want Leadership, watch Will Howard
If you want scrambling, watch Jalen Milroe
If you want none of that, Watch Davis Warren pic.twitter.com/DiOFmWhPqe

Davis Warren legit one of the worst QBs I’ve ever watched start multiple games for a power 4

Michigan coaching staff is terrible. Davis Warren has got to be the worst D1 QB I’ve seen…dude sucks.
