Well, it looks like Tom Brady has added another weapon to his plethora of wide receivers to throw the ball to. Reports have surfaced today that Julio Jones has signed a one year deal with the Buccaneers. Jones signs with the Buccaneers after spending eleven years with the Falcons and Titans. He spent one year with the Titans and before that ten years with the Falcons. Jones was the Falcons career leader with 848 catches and 12,896 yards. His 91.9 receiving yards per game is the best per-game average in NFL history.
The addition of Jones adds to a loaded receiving room with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Breshad Perriman, Scotty Miller, and Tyler Johnson. The Bucs also signed Russell Gage from the Falcons earlier in the offseason. Jones is looking to have a comeback year. An injury riddled season led Jones to only having 31 receptions for 434 yards and one touchdown in ten games. Signing with a team who lead the league in passing yards per game is an irresistible opportunity.
The Packers were interested in Jones
There were a couple of other teams that had interest in Jones along with the Buccaneers. Most of the other teams weren’t mentioned but the one team Jones mentioned was the Packers. The Packers have a loaded receiver room with Sammy Watkins, Amari Rodgers, Randall Cobb, and Allen Lazard. The Bucs have ultimately won the race to sign him.
The Bucs will be an unstoppable force this year with the additions of all of these new receivers on offense. Last week, the team also signed former Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph to a one year contract. It remains to be seen whether Jones will have a big year but he will fit in well with the Bucs offense. This team should make a deep run in the playoffs and should be one of the best passing offenses in the league.
