The Ohio State Buckeyes have had a different starting quarterback for the last few years. In 2025, they will have a different starting quarterback, but there is a chance that the starting quarterback in 2025 can be the starter in 2026 as well.

Will Howard was the starting quarterback for head coach Ryan Day during the Buckeyes national championship run. In 2025, Julian Sayin is competing for the starting quarterback role. For now, Sayin is the number one quarterback on Ohio State’s depth chart.
College Football Analyst Believes That the Ohio State Buckeyes Have a Multi-Year Starter With Julian Sayin

The quarterback room is a major question mark for Ohio State entering the 2025 college football season. There are three quarterbacks competing for one job. Sayin, Lincoln Kienholz, and freshman Tavien St. Clair are competing for the starting role.
Adam Rittenberg of espn.com talked about the likelihood of Ohio State having a multi-year starter coming up. Rittenberg said,
“Quite likely. Ohio State has the smallest and least experienced quarterback room of coach Ryan Day’s tenure, mainly because Julian Sayin is in line to take over. Sayin, a redshirt freshman who transferred from Alabama after Nick Saban retired, was ESPN’s No. 9 recruit in the 2024 class. He must beat out junior Lincoln Kienholz but could lead the offense at least through 2026.”
It would be interesting to see how the offense would operate with Sayin as the starter. There is no doubt that having Jeremiah Smith as his top wide receiver option will help. Carnell Tate is expected to be a breakout wide receiver candidate for Ohio State during the 2025 college football season.
With Sayin potentially being a multi-year starter for this program, it would mean that St. Clair would have to wait his turn. He is a five-star recruit and incoming freshman. St. Clair is ranked 10th in the ESPN Top 300 from the class of 2025. Would Ohio State potentially redshirt him? It is something that remains to be seen.
As for Sayin, he saw limited action during the 2024 college football season and completed 41.7% of his passes for 84 yards and one touchdown. Sayin is 6’1″ and weighs 203 lbs. The Buckeyes lost a lot of talent to the NFL, but Ohio State will be able to reload and win a lot of games once again as long as Sayin can develop properly.
