Julian Fleming, the former Ohio State and Penn State wide receiver, who was once ranked as the top receiver prospect in the nation, faces felony charges in connection with a fatal ATV crash that claimed the life of his girlfriend this past spring.
The crash occurred when he drove an ATV with his girlfriend, Alyssa Boyd, 23, as a passenger and struck a deer. Boyd died from injuries sustained in the collision. Fleming also suffered serious injuries in the wreck.
He surrendered to authorities and now faces multiple charges related to operating the vehicle while intoxicated.
According to reports, Fleming’s blood-alcohol level measured .118 at the time of the crash, exceeding Pennsylvania’s legal limit of .08. He told investigators he consumed five to six beers before operating the ATV.
Fleming appeared in court on Wednesday for his arraignment. He posted bail and was released pending further proceedings. Boyd from Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, was preparing to graduate at the time of her death.

Fleming entered college as the top-rated wide receiver in the 2020 recruiting class. During his time at Ohio State and Penn State, he recorded 79 receptions for 963 yards and seven touchdowns across 38 games.
After his college career ended, he signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent earlier this year but was released after failing a physical due to hip and back injuries.
Fleming’s Career Path From Five-Star Recruit To Legal Trouble
Fleming arrived at Ohio State with considerable expectations. He was ranked as the best receiver in his class and signed with the Buckeyes over numerous other major programs. His production didn’t quite match those lofty projections, though he suffered a lot of injuries which played a role in limiting his playing time.
He spent four seasons in Columbus before moving to Penn State for his final year of eligibility.
Injuries ended his professional aspirations before they truly began when Green Bay released him shortly after signing him.
Boyd’s family and friends have mourned her loss since May. The charges filed this week bring the case into public view and begin the formal legal process. Fleming will face additional court dates as the case moves forward. The outcome depends on how the evidence is presented and what a jury determines about his culpability in the crash that killed his girlfriend.
