Kansas City Chiefs Fans Call For Pro Bowler To Be Cut After Unacceptable Mistake

The Kansas City Chiefs might be light on pass catchers, but their fanbase is ruthless in wanting the front office to cut one of their healthy players after making a crucial mistake on Monday night. The Chiefs will be without Marquise Brown for a few months due to a shoulder injury. Rashee Rice is expected to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

The Chiefs were leading the New Orleans Saints 16-7 in the third quarter when 2018 Pro Bowl wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster dropped a pass near the goal line that was intercepted by defensive tackle Khalen Sanders and returned to the New Orleans 35-yard line.

The Saints’ offense would drive the field for a touchdown to make it a 17-13 game. The dropped pass changed the game from a Chiefs’ potential 16-point advantage over the Saints to a four-point game in the early fourth quarter.

The dropped touchdown opportunity by Smith-Schuster wasn’t his first of the season. He dropped a pass near the goal line in the Chiefs’ season opener against the Baltimore Ravens. (That pass was not picked off.)

Fortunately for the Chiefs, Smith-Schuster redeemed himself on the next offensive drive when he recorded a 50-yard reception to set up a touchdown to go ahead 23-13. The Pittsburgh Steelers’ second-round pick in 2017 led all Chiefs receivers in yards against the Saints early in the fourth quarter with 117 yards.

Coming into the contest, Smith-Schuster had just two receptions on four targets for 17 yards and one touchdown through the first four weeks.

The Chiefs signed Smith-Schuster in August after the New England Patriots cut the former USC standout in training camp.

Some Chiefs fans wanted Smith-Schuster cut after the mistake on Monday night. Here are some of the responses on social media of fans calling for the receiver to be cut on a shorthanded unit.

“Juju needs to get cut tonight,” posted one angry fan.

“This why Juju was cut. I would of caught that,” commented another.

“Juju deserves to be cut,” suggested a poster.

“juju will be getting cut tomorrow,” predicted a fan.

“JuJu Smith-Schuster you gotta be kidding me. cut him,” wrote another.
