Per James Palmer of the NFL Network, the Browns are going to be signing Josh Rosen to a one-year deal.

This is following the report that the Browns were hosting both Josh Rosen and AJ McCarron for workouts. The Browns chose to have these workouts after it was reported that they were bracing for an eight-game suspension of Deshaun Watson.

Josh Rosen will be serving as backup to Jacoby Brissett depending on if Watson is suspended or not.
Even though the Browns have already made their decision, some may be wondering why they didn’t choose AJ McCarron.
So, Why Not McCarron?
There are probably a couple of reasons to why they chose Rosen over him.
The Browns probably see more potential in him. After all, Rosen is a younger player than McCarron and he also has more experience than McCarron. Rosen has seven more games played than McCarron despite having played three fewer seasons. And obviously, Rosen also is more of a reliable player.
For most of McCarron’s career, he has been very injury prone. He’s had so many injuries to the point where he has only played in 17 games throughout a six-year career.
In the past, he’s had shoulder problems, a wrist sprain, a broken thumb, and even in college he had three separated ribs. Stuff like that really hurts to see, but it’s just apart of the game.
Can Rosen Actually Produce?
Rosen should be a solid backup for Brissett. His stats aren’t the greatest ever, but he could still produce with the weapons that he’ll have around him.
With players like Amari Cooper and David Njoku around him he can definitely get some good offense in.
With Watson more than likely to be suspended due to his sexual assault/misconduct allegations, Rosen should be the primary backup to Jacoby Brissett.
