Lane Kiffin’s future is a big question mark currently, as various college football teams are pursuing him to fill their head coaching positions, especially LSU and Florida.
While Ole Miss is on an impressive run during the 2025 college football run as they sit on a 10-1 overall record, with just one more victory to solidify their playoff spot, whether he is going to come back again in 2026 is still not clear.

After the win over the Gators on Saturday, Kiffin gave a cryptic response on his potential 2026 return and said that it would be disrespectful to the players if he talked about it right now, telling the reporters that it was a great win and he just wants to focus on that.
Talking about Kiffin’s future, Josh Pate said that the Rebels are probably going to offer him an extension with everything he wants, probably before the Egg Bowl, which Kiffin would either sign or just move on from to pursue other opportunities.
“Florida, I think he’s their Plan A and I think they’re waiting,” Pate added. “But also I think Florida would love an answer sooner rather than later. I have no clue what LSU is doing on the Lane Kiffin front. I assume that they’re pursuing him as well.”
“If I had to guess right now, my mind has changed on this a few times, if I had to guess, if I had to put my name on paper right now and then I don’t get to change it no matter what information comes my way… my guess is he’s going to go to Florida.
“No definitive knowledge, let me put it that way. Maybe a little bit of knowledge. I do talk to a few people. But that’s a guess. I don’t know.” Pate said on Sunday.
Josh Pate Weighs In on Lane Kiffin’s Chances of Coaching in the NFL
While Kiffin was already an in-demand coach for a few of the college football head coaching jobs, after the New York Giants pulled the trigger on Brian Daboll, many analysts thought he also became a popular name for some of the NFL jobs as well.
Talking about whether Kiffin would consider a job in the league, Josh Pate said on “The Colin Cowherd Podcast” that it is a real possibility.
Pate said that not Kiffin; many college football head coaches would consider a job in the league, which would shock many fans.
The analyst further said that it stems from the mentality of wanting to win on Sundays and testing themselves against the best, especially with somebody like Lane, who has a past with the Raiders.
“And especially with Lane, like you’ve got the Oakland Raiders chapter in his past. You don’t think he wants to make good on that, dude? Yeah, I think he would consider it.” Pate told Cowherd.
