The Washington Commanders are giving Jayden Daniels a backup quarterback before the OTAs are set to start later this month.
Daniels is the undisputed QB1 for Washington after leading the team to the NFC Championship Game in his rookie season. He threw for 3,568 yards, 25 touchdowns, and nine interceptions en route to winning the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and making a Pro Bowl appearance.
On Friday, the Commanders added a veteran to the locker room.

Per John Keim of ESPN, the Commanders are set to sign quarterback Josh Johnson to a one-year deal.

At 38, Johnson has made many stops around the league. The six-foot-three, 214-pound athlete played for San Diego in college. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected him in the fifth round of the 2008 draft.

Johnson has played for the San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals, New York Jets, Indianapolis Colts, Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens, New York Giants, Houston Texans, Oakland Raiders, Detroit Lions, and Denver Broncos.
He’s spent time in the XFL, earning the league’s best passer rating in 2020.
Johnson has made 45 appearances in the NFL and nine starts. He has a 1-8 record as a starter. He’s thrown for 2,297 yards, 13 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.
The Commanders have quarterbacks Daniels, Johnson, Sam Hartman, and Marcus Mariota on their offseason roster.
