Why Does Josh Gordon’s Rise Matter?
Josh Gordon was once a household name in the NFL. Gordon was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the second round of the 2012 NFL supplemental draft. Gordon displayed the qualities of an elite wide receiver. During the 2013 season Gordon lead the NFL in receiving yards with 1,646.
Gordon’s NFL career took a nose dive when he started abusing alcohol and violating team rules. Gordon was suspended two games in 2013 for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. In the summer of 2014 Gordon was arrested in 2014 because his blood alcohol level was above the state limit. After the incident Gordon was suspended for the 2014 season. Gordon faced other issues from 2014-2018. In 2018 Gordon stepped away from the NFL to deal with his mental health.
Gordon was a journey man in the NFL. Gordon played for the Cleveland Browns, Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs, and Tennessee Titans. Gordon never made his mark with any of his new teams. Gordon would have little flashes of greatness, but never put it all together.
Despite the challenges Gordon has found a new home with the Sea Dragons. Life is hard and Gordon had to learn to be more mature. Hard times shape people and make them better. I think it’s great to see Gordon shining with the Sea Dragons. Gordon is still living his dream and playing the sport he loves. If Gordon can stay out of trouble, he might make it back to the NFL.
