When the Green Bay Packers selected Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, many had questions regarding the status of MVP quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. The situation seemed oddly similar to the one Rodgers found himself in with star quarterback Brett Farve. Since the selection of Love, the former Utah State quarterback has never been given a true chance. Heading into his third season, it seems he has finally received the opportunity to truly shine.
Jordan Love has experience like no other in his class
Patience is one of the most difficult attributes to obtain. Arguably Love had no choice, but to be patient, and he has handled sitting behind Rodgers like a pure professional. Therefore, it seems as if Love has fully embraced learning from the two-time MVP quarterback.
The experience of sitting behind an elite quarterback like Rodgers is uncanny, and therefore, Love is gaining experience no other quarterback in his class has received. Aside from Joe Burrow playing in the Super Bowl, Love has the best value in terms of experience out of any quarterback in his draft class.
Patience at the quarterback position yields marvelous results
Too often in the NFL, young, talented quarterbacks are rushed into playing meaningful games, and therefore, stunts their progress. Furthermore, NFL organizations begin to grow impatient and start to shift focus from their once hopeful quarterback. However, when teams stay true to the process, the success is magnificent.
The Buffalo Bills staying patient with Josh Allen has given the team massively successful results. Furthermore, the Packers staying patient with Aaron Rodgers as well with Farve as their quarterback. Even the Kansas City Chiefs stayed patient with Patrick Mahomes, allowing him to sit his entire rookie season.
Staying patient at the quarterback position is crucial, and the Packers have stayed true to that process with Love. It also doesn’t hurt to have a two-time MVP leading your football team year in and year out.
Love gets a much-needed preseason start
Love will finally get the playing time he has been waiting for. He will get the start for the Green Bay Packers as they take on the San Francisco 49ers in their preseason opener.
The preseason start will mark his first shot at getting legitimate playing time with a game plan catered to him. Love started versus the Kansas City Chiefs while Rodgers tested positive for COVID-19, and the playcalling limited Love. Many felt disappointed in Love, but given the circumstances and the limited playcalling, Love did as best as he could. However, he did struggle versus the Detriot Lions as he headed into the game in the second half to replace Rodgers in the last game of the regular season.
Furthermore, his rookie season was limited due to COVID-19, and a shoulder injury suffered in last year’s preseason opener hindered his preseason.
Now, Love will show the country how far he has come in terms of progress on the football field.
It seems as though Love will finally be given the chance to shine.
