Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love started practice this week at training camp as a hold-in. He’ll have no reason to miss practice next week after the Packers made him the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history.
The Miami Dolphins drove up QB prices on Friday
On Friday, the Miami Dolphins moved the quarterback back market when they handed Tua Tagovailoa a four-year contract extension worth $214.4 million, of which $167 million was guaranteed. Tua is set to make $53.1 million per year, which earlier in the afternoon made him the third-highest-paid quarterback in the league behind Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence.
Love smashed that benchmark a few hours later.
Jordan Love signed a big contract extension
According to Adam Schefter with ESPN, Love agreed to an extension worth $220 million, of which $155 million is guaranteed. $75 million will come via his signing bonus. Love is now the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history.
Jordan Love and the Packers have agreed to a 4 year $220M contract, that makes him the highest paid QB in NFL history. He also gets a record $75M Signing Bonus plus $155M in new full gurantees. Deal negotiated by David Mulugheta & Andrew Kessler of Athletes First. pic.twitter.com/dKDtzUrakX

Love is making incredible money after one season as the Packers’ full-time starter. Love didn’t play well at the beginning of the 2023 season. However, Love played well in the second half of the season and led the Packers to a Wild Card win over the Dallas Cowboys in January.
$155 million in guaranteed cash is a crazy amount to give a quarterback after less than one season of decent football.
The Packers hope Love will progress with one of the league’s youngest and speediest receiver corps.
NFL fans’ initial reaction to the signing
Here are the top takes on social media of Love signing his deal. Most fans seem to think the Packers overpaid Love after one season as a starter.
Definition of an overpay 😭😭😭

I love this. If you are convinced within your building that he’s the guy then pay him.
Unnecessary for him to “prove it again” & have him do what you already know and increase the price drastically.
And yes, he’s worth it.

Over pay or what ?
