Explosive runs, smooth cuts and elusive moves are significant for NFL running backs. Indianapolis Colts Running Back Jonathan Taylor possesses all these unique skills.

Taylor made Pro Football Focus’s top 25 players under 25 list.  Taylor was the 12th-ranked player on the list. Pro Football Focus released the list on May 21.

Taylor received a 71.5 grade on Pro Football Focus for the 2022 season. Taylor and the Colt’s offense took a step back in 2022. Indy used multiple offensive line formations. Taylor played with three different quarterbacks.

Most significantly Taylor suffered an ankle injury during the season. The injury limited Taylor’s explosiveness.

Indy’s running game was poor and Taylor struggled to get going. According to Statmuse, Indianapolis rushed for 1,866 yards which ranked 23rd. Indy averaged 109.8 yards per game.

    A Fresh Start

Two thousand twenty-three is a new year and a fresh start for Taylor. Taylor gets to work with a smart offensive mind in Shane Steichen. Steichen was a terrific offensive coordinator for the Eagles. According to Statmuse, Philadelphia rushed for 2,509 yards in 2022. Steichen’s rushing offense averaged 5.1 per carry.

Steichen’s influence should help Taylor bounce back in 2023. Taylor must find his footing and get back to making explosive plays. Taylor’s playmaking ability elevates Indy’s offense. Indy’s 2021 season highlights Taylor’s value.

    Final Note

Despite the poor 2022 season, Taylor is a great football player. Taylor has carried the ball 756 times and recorded 3,841 rushing yards. Taylor has scored 33 rushing touchdowns. Taylor recorded 802 receiving yards and has scored three receiving touchdowns.
