The Notre Dame Fighting Irish finished with a 10-2 record during the regular season in college football. Many people believed that Notre Dame was going to find a way into the college football playoffs.

Well, the Fighting Irish missed the playoffs entirely. The Alabama Crimson Tide (10-3 record) and the Miami Hurricanes (10-2 record) made the playoffs over Notre Dame. Miami being in over the Fighting Irish isn’t the problem. The problem is Alabama did not show up in the SEC title game, and they didn’t drop a spot in the playoff rankings. Notre Dame fans were livid over this as they should be.
College Football Fans Get Harsh About the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Deciding Not To Play in a Bowl Game

Despite Notre Dame being eligible to play in a bowl game despite missing the playoffs, they decided to decline an invite to play in a bowl game. This decision was made as a team to not play the game. Some people are not thrilled with head coach Marcus Freeman about this. Well, Notre Dame probably decided not to play in a bowl game because of what the college football playoffs committee did to them this entire time.
College football fans got harsh about the Fighting Irish’s decision to not play in a bowl game this year. This is what some of them had to say about it on Twitter:
Join a conference or don’t lose a game

pouting like a bunch of babies is a choice

Biggest loser move in the history of college football. Take your ball and go home, losers.
— Brad Rhees (@BradRhees) December 7, 2025
This is weaker than refusing to join a conference 😂

I get it even more now.
“Hey you weren’t selected for the playoffs, come watch us sacrifice a giant pop tart instead “
— Jay (@JLettucewrist) December 7, 2025
There are a lot of people who also believe that the college football playoffs committee is sending a message to them about joining a conference in football. However, Notre Dame is a big brand, and they have been an independent for the longest time. It would be interesting to see what conference they would join if it had to happen.
They play in the ACC for men’s basketball, but are they willing to do it for football? Well, it is going to be a long offseason for Freeman and the Fighting Irish. The 2026 season in college football could potentially be a revenge tour for this football program and Notre Dame will look to prove everyone wrong.
