The pedal would appear to be to the floorboard. The “All Gas, No Brakes” mentality of the Texas Longhorns speeds on with this recent commitment. Five-star wide receiver Johntay Cook II from DeSoto, TX.
Johntay Cook is a 6’0″ – 175-pound wide receiver. According to the 247 Sports he is ranked as the thirty sixth overall recruit nationally. He also ranks as the sixth wide receiver. This from the composite ranking for the class of 2023.
Cook’s commitment to the Texas Longhorns is the ninth commitment since Arch Manning made his on June 23rd. With Johntay Cook’s joining the Longhorns now possess the number two ranked recruiting class for 2023 behind Ohio State.
Did Arch Manning provide the gas and cut the brakes?
The commitment of Arch Manning, the highest-rated recruit to commit to the Texas Longhorns in the history of the program (as measured by ESPN’s recruiting rankings), has undeniably had an influence on the nine different recruits who have committed to the Longhorns in the recent days.
It is not unfounded to suggest that a recruit like Johntay Cook II, with his offers from Michigan and the dynastical Alabama, was inspired when Arch Manning chose Texas over opportunities to be the quarterback at Alabama, Georgia, and other recent College Football Playoff contenders.
ESPN acquired comment from head coach Steve Sarkisian on the momentum of the Manning commitment and he responded “This has been a great run… Hopefully, it’s not over. I don’t think it is. We may have a few more to go here this week. Hopefully we can continue to capture some of the momentum that has been created.”
Sarkisian’s comment on Manning’s commitment came the week before Johntay Cook II made his commitment official. As a life-long Longhorn I can only hope the “gas” in the tank stays filled and the “brakes” stay absent.
