John Elway is leaving his consulting job with the Denver Broncos
John Elway has been an iconic figure with the Denver Broncos since they drafted him as the number one overall pick in 1983. Elway won two Super Bowls with the team as a quarterback. He brought another for Denver as their general manager/executive VP of football operations. After spending last season as a consultant, Elway is stepping away from a full-time position.

According to an interview with 9News, Elway said he would still help the Broncos if they needed his help:
“I’ll still be around as a resource,’’ Elway said. “I’ve been with the Denver Broncos for so long that it was nice to have some sort of connection which is what I wanted. I didn’t want an obligation. I’m getting a little older, I want to be able to do some things I haven’t done. I’m ready to have a flexible schedule. If there’s something I can help them with I’d do that.”
We’ll see if first-year head coach Sean Payton reaches out to Elway later this season. Payton will have his hands full with his new project, trying to reach the Super Bowl with an aging quarterback star, Russell Wilson. Elway knows a little bit about that.
