The Cincinnati Bengals have placed their franchise in the hands of quarterback Joe Burrow.  Since 2021, Burrow has been the face of the franchise and established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.

That will get you some unwanted attention at times, which is exactly what Burrow is dealing with.

In front of Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow’s security team, a Cleveland Browns fan is captured on camera refusing to back down:

The Browns-Bengals rivalry has gradually intensified in the 2020s, with the two clubs re-emerging as playoff teams in the AFC. Cleveland has reached the postseason twice (2020 and 2023) under head coach Kevin Stefanski, while Burrow led the long-suffering Bengals franchise to the playoffs in 2021 and 2022.

Prior to the 2020s, the Browns and Bengals combined for zero playoff wins between 1995 and 2019. Cleveland finally broke its 26-year postseason win drought with a Wild Card Round win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2020. Cincinnati ended its 31-year playoff victory drought the following year with a Wild Card Round W against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The ML Football X/Twitter account received a video of a Browns fan encountering Joe Burrow with his security team at an undisclosed location. The heckling fan delivered some harsh words with Burrow as his security team intervened.

“Hey Joe, the Browns own you, bro!” the fan said. “The Browns own you! Hey! The Browns own you, bro!”

Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow celebrates a Week 17 overtime win over the Denver Broncos that kept Cincinnati's slim playoff hopes alive. Burrow threw for 412 yards and three touchdowns in the game and also added a rushing score.

Burrow has a 3-5-0 record against the Browns, but he’s also thrown 15 touchdowns against only five interceptions in those contests. The Bengals also swept the season series against the Browns in 2024, with Burrow throwing five touchdowns and no picks.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (9) runs for the locker room after the fourth quarter of the NFL Week 18 game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025. The Bengals won 19-17 to finish the regular season at 9-8.

With another season series sweep in 2025, Burrow will move to .500 against the Browns and silence the Cleveland fans who think their club “owns” him.

Fortunately for football fans, the Bengals and Browns won’t wait much longer to renew their rivalry. The generous NFL schedule makers set up a Cincinnati-Cleveland showdown at Huntington Bank Field in Week 1 (Sept. 7 at 1:00 p.m. EST).

The two clubs will close out the regular season in Week 18, with Cincy hosting its archrivals in Week 18.
