Former U.S. President Joe Biden is hinting at a return to the political spotlight more than a year after stepping away from the presidency—at least that’s how veteran sports analyst and political commentator Stephen A. Smith sees it. On The Stephen A. Smith Show, Smith suggested that Biden’s rumored tell-all book, set to release just in time for the 2026 midterm elections, could be a power move with serious consequences.
“What are we hearing now, President Joe Biden?” Smith asked on Friday’s show. “That at 82 years of age… you’re talking about writing a book. And the book is going to be out in about a year—that’s right around when the midterms are coming out.”
According to a former White House aide, the book, co-authored by Joe and Jill Biden, is said to be “very explosive.” That’s exactly what worries Stephen A. Smith.

“So, is it possible that what you’re saying is, ‘I’m gonna come out with a tell-all book, and I’ma dime everybody out… I’ma call out the Democratic Party so you can somehow get in the way of whatever success they’re hoping to reap in the 2026 midterms?” he continued.
For Smith, it’s a “sickening” move from a former president who was once propped up by the same party he now risks hurting.

Democrats Paying the Price for Enabling Joe Biden
Stephen A. Smith didn’t just aim his criticism at Joe Biden. He also called out the Democratic Party for enabling the former president and his wife, accusing them of failing to hold the Bidens accountable when it mattered most.
“If Biden had kept his word and stepped away… if the Democrats had had the strength to hold them to it, all of this noise might’ve been prevented,” Smith said.
Biden once promised he’d serve as a “transitional president,” preparing the way for a future Democratic leader. But instead of stepping aside, he ran again before finally conceding and passing the torch to former Vice President Kamala Harris, who ultimately lost to Donald Trump in 2024.
Now, with a book possibly exposing the cracks within the party, Smith believes the Bidens are biting the hands that once fed them.
The lesson for Democrats? Don’t let loyalty blind you, especially when it comes at the cost of your future.
