Former U.S. President Joe Biden recently claimed he could’ve beaten Donald Trump in the 2024 election, but veteran sports analyst and media personality Stephen A. Smith believes that ship has long sailed. For Smith, the 82-year-old Biden had his shot and blew it—eventually stepping aside for former Vice President Kamala Harris, who also lost to Trump.
On Friday’s episode of The Stephen A. Smith Show, Smith didn’t hold back. He blamed both Joe and Jill Biden for the Democratic Party’s downfall in the 2024 elections.
While Smith acknowledged that Harris made a critical mistake by saying she wouldn’t change anything about Biden’s presidency if she took over, which he believes “sealed the fate” of her campaign, he made it clear who he thinks is most responsible.

“That doesn’t even come close to equating the damage you did, sir,” Smith said. “You and the former First Lady, Jill Biden.”
Still, he gave Jill some grace: “Now Jill Biden, I’m not going to blame her so much because she was standing by her husband.”
Smith reminded listeners that Biden once promised to be a “transitional president,” aiming to clean up the White House and prepare it for Harris. But in Smith’s eyes, Biden got a taste of power and didn’t want to let go.
“The Democrats won the midterms, and you were feeling yourself,” he said. “You didn’t want to surrender power.”
He also criticized Jill Biden for trying to cover for her husband, “knowing that there was slippage.”

Stephen A. Smith Sounds the Alarm: Joe Biden’s Next Move Might Hurt Democrats Again
Looking ahead, Stephen A. Smith is worried the Bidens could do even more harm. Joe Biden is reportedly working on a tell-all book set for release just before the 2026 midterms—something Smith sees as a major red flag.
“This is the sickening part of politics,” Smith said. “This is what they mean when they talk about people eating their own ‘cuz you ain’t giving a damn.”
He continued, “And now, when you have an opportunity to walk away into the twilight and live your final years, you talking about coming out with a book. It has to be a tell-all to get you money. It’s a sinister game, and you know it’s when you can’t stop playing it in your 80s.”
