Matt Eberflus, head coach of the Chicago Bears, found himself in hot water after missing calling a time-out in the game against the Detroit Lions. The Bears lost the game with a final score of 23-20, which could have been easily avoided if Eberflus had called a timeout in the last few moments of the game.
The mistake has irked many fans and sports experts, who have spoken about it on social media. JJ Watt, a former professional footballer who played defensive end for the Houston Texans for many years, recently expressed his take on the matter on the social media platform X.
What in the absolute world was that by the Bears?!?
The end of game management by them multiple times this year is absolutely BAFFLING.
— JJ Watt (@JJWatt) November 28, 2024
This was not Watt’s only tweet on the matter. He also posted again, saying that he feels bad for fans of the Chicago Bears team. He went on to call Eberflus’ mistake ‘coaching malpractice’.
Matt Eberflus’s game-losing error also angered Chicago players Keenan Allen and DJ Moore, who spoke about the miscue after the game. While everyone seems to think that Eberflus made a huge mistake in the game, the coach himself seems to think differently.
In the game against the Detroit Lions, Chicago’s QB Caleb Williams went for 256 yards, completing 20 passes out of 39 attempts for 256 yards, scoring three TDs. Williams also led the rushing with four carries for 39 yards, while D.J. Moore defended with eight receptions for 97 yards, scoring once.
Chicago Bears Fire Matt Eberflus After Three Seasons
Meanwhile, Chicago Bears management took Matt Eberflus’s miscue in the game against the Detroit Lions quite seriously and fired the head coach. Eberflus led the team for three seasons in the NFL and will now be replaced by Thomas Brown, the offensive coordinator, who will take care of the team for the rest of the season.
This is the first time in the Chicago Bears’ history that they have let go of a head coach in the middle of the season. Matt Eberflus managed 14 wins and 32 defeats in his three seasons with the Bears. The coach has the third-worst winning percentage for the Chicago Bears. The absolute worst came from John Fox, followed by Abe Gibron. Eberflus’ firing was supported by many fans of the team, who were also appreciative of his many efforts.
