New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh was fired on Monday, sending shockwaves throughout the NFL. In response, sports analyst Stephen A. Smith explained why he is shocked by the dismissal of the head coach.
Having started the season 2-3, the Jets have officially parted ways with Saleh. There had been tensions between Saleh and star quarterback Aaron Rodgers, which may have contributed to this decision. During Saleh’s tenure, which lasted just over three years, he went 20-36.
Following the firing, Saleh’s comments pulled on the heart strings of fans.
Jets Fans React To Robert Saleh’s Heartbreaking Statement After Firing
According to Fox NFL Insider Jay Glazer:
Just talked to Robert Saleh who said was blindsided by Woody Johnson walking to his office and letting him go.
Certainly disappointed he wasn’t going to be given the opportunity to get things going with what he said is a very good roster
According to NFL Insider Michael Silver, Saleh “is planning a vacation with his family and preparing for the next hiring cycle. Should an opportunity arise, he does not plan to join the staff of anyone in 2024.
It is difficult to find much praise for Saleh’s coaching record in the NFL. Among all Jets coaches who lasted at least one season, Saleh had the third-worst winning percentage (.357).
Rich Kotite (.125) and Adam Gase (.281) are the only coaches who were worse in franchise history.
There is some debate over whether firing a head coach at the start of the season will have a tangible impact. Nevertheless, we cannot dispute Saleh’s lack of success as a head coach. It is evident from the results.
When fans saw this, they reacted accordingly on social media:
The opportunity to get things going was before losing 10-9 to Denver
