2022 One Jets Drive Is Here

The New York Jets aren’t a team used to getting many things right in recent history. On and off the field. There is one area in which they have outshined almost every team in the league. Their multi-nominated and Emmy-winning documentary series is back for the 2022 season. One Jets Drive of 1JD Films is here and it provides an inside look at the journey of each season dating back to 2018. 1JD also produces the off-season show “Flight 2022”, or enter the appropriate year. That show brings you through the lives of scouts scouting their assigned region of college schools for prospects. It takes you into meetings between the front office and the coaching staff. You get to see how they attack free agency and the NFL Draft behind the scenes.

2022 One Jets Drive- Episode One

The first episode starts exactly as it should. Jet’s second-year Quarterback Zach Wilson sits down in a chair and is asked “ how would you describe your first season in the NFL?” He is the face of the franchise after all. Wilson showed off his immense talent, but it also came with rocky moments in his rookie season. Great throws against the Carolina Panthers in the 4th quarter, but then a four-interception game versus the arch-rival New England Patriots. The first minutes of this episode showcase the high and lowlights of his rookie season. Zach is asked what drives him and He answers “to try to be the best”. That’s exactly what Jets fans want to hear from the former second overall pick.Coach Robert Saleh

In the next scene, Head Coach Robert Saleh is addressing the team. He is trying to set the tone for the upcoming season. Coach brings up his mantra of “All gas, No brakes”. He speaks about the team showing up. His intention is for it to be a way of life instead of just a saying or just words. Different motivational tactics are used to drive the point home of being the very best team they can’t this season. The way he utilized his command voice and addressed the team showed why people rave about him being a coach that anyone would want to play for.

Two scenes stood out the most.

One of the many reasons for optimism with the New York Jets this season is because of the signing of Pro Bowl Guard Laken Tomlinson. One Jets Drive highlights his leadership, confident nature, and how he is building camaraderie with his teammates. A moment between him and Jets Defensive tackle Quinnen Williams caught my attention. The two are conversing about not taking the battles in the trenches personally. Laken then states that they are there to make each other better. Quinnen then responds by saying “ that O-line is yours and that D-line is mine.”  As a Jets fan, Hearing Quinnen speak like that got me hype.

There has been a lot of talk about the 2019 third overall pick. People feel as if he was picked too high and some judge him on the number three pick status, instead of his actual numbers which are good, just not great. He is entering his 4th season and has the most talent around him that he has ever had barring injuries.  He is also shown saying he wants to be a pro bowler, and how he wants to reach the top level. The Defensive tackle asks Laken to hold him accountable if he caught him slacking. Quinnen is known for giving his cliche responses at the podium during press conferences. So to see this from him was motivating from a fan’s perspective.

    Laken Again

Laken was also involved in the next moment that stood out. He allowed One Jets Drive behind the curtain to show his personal life. He showed a personal phone call with his family. A precious moment with his daughter using the potty and his elation with that. But the emotion he showed when speaking about when he found his purpose in 2019 was powerful. He speaks about the tragedy of losing his first child. She passed in the hospital after her being alive for 18 days. Laken then states that he wasn’t sure he was able to keep on going in a pretty emotional scene.

    In Conclusion

One Jets Drive provides a unique look behind the scenes at the process and everyday workings of an NFL franchise. They showcase different perspectives and viewpoints on athletes’ lives and personalities that we wouldn’t normally have access to. It humanizes them showing that they have personal lives and deal with issues just like the rest of us. The docu-series can be found on the New York Jets YouTube page or their website. I’m sure it will continue to provide insight for Jets fans and give us a sneak behind the curtain just a little bit. Now it’s time to get the awards on the field.
