Jerry Jones is sticking with Mike McCarthy in 2024.
Outspoken Dallas Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones made a shocking decision regarding the future of head coach, Mike McCarthy. Despite the disappointing end to their 2023 season, Jones announced that McCarthy will remain the club’s head coach in 2024.
Jones released a statement, on Wednesday evening, detailing his decision to retain McCarthy for 2024:
“I believe this team is very close and capable of achieving our ultimate goals and the best step forward for us will be with Mike McCarthy as our head coach. There is great benefit to continuing the team’s progress under Mike’s leadership as our head coach.”
Per Jones, despite the dud ending to the season, McCarthy played a key role in many of the good things that occurred in Dallas, this season:\
“There are many layers of success that have occurred this season as a result of Mike’s approach to leading the team, both with individual players and with our team collectively. Mike has the highest regular-season winning percentage of any head coach in Cowboys history and we will dedicate ourselves, in partnership with him, to translating that into reaching our postseason goals. Certainly, Mike’s career has demonstrated postseason success at a high level, and we have great confidence that can continue.”
Dallas Cowboys’ Roller Coaster 2024
All was well in ‘Jerry World’ as the Dallas Cowboys began their season with a 7-2 record, which included a five-game winning streak over the likes of the Philadelphia Eagles, Seattle Seahawks, Washington Commanders, Carolina Panthers, and New York Giants. Despite a few losses to the Eagles, 49ers, and a shocking one in Arizona against the lowly Kyler Murray-less Cardinals, the Cowboys ended the regular season with back-to-back wins over the Jets and Giants to win the NFC East.
Unfortunately for the Dallas Cowboys, history repeated itself when Jerry Jones’ club was throttled by Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Wild Card in their own place, 48-32. After such an embarrassing loss to his old team, it was seemingly a foregone conclusion that Mike McCarthy would be the fall guy for the Cowboys’ short-coming…especially with names like Bill Belichick and Jim Harbaugh on the market.
However, Jerry Jones has other plans as he will keep McCarthy manning the sidelines in 2024, which will certainly be met with mixed reactions by Cowboys fans and foes alike.
