The Miami Hurricanes continue to collect marquee prospects, adding edge rusher Jayden Wayne to their 2023 recruiting cycle. The defensive prospect chose Miami over LSU, Oregon, Alabama, Michigan State, and Georgia.

Wayne got his first glimpse of Coral Gables in January for an unofficial trip and was invited to the Hurricanes’ Junior Day. The four-star prospect returned in mid-June for an official visit. Mario Cristobal was heavily invested in Wayne when he coached at Oregon. Now the boss in Miami, the bond he and Wayne built played a role in Wayne’s decision.

“You guys are getting a beast, a coachable player, willing to learn. Not afraid of anything. I’m ready to compete.”

-Jayden Wayne on what to expect from him.

    A Look at Jayden Wayne

After two years at Lincoln High School in Tacoma, WA, Wayne transferred to IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL. He plays both sides of the ball but will stick to defense when he reaches college.

In his junior year, he recorded 44 total tackles (16 of them for lost yardage) and nine sacks. As a wide receiver, Wayne caught 18 passes for 269 yards and five touchdowns. The four-star prospect plays basketball after the football season concludes.

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound defensive end sits at No. 74 on ESPN’s Class of 2023 Top 300. He received an 85 scout grade and ranks as the seventh-best DE in the nation.

    In Conclusion

Cristobal brings in his 13th Class of 2023 recruit and the Hurricanes now total six four-star athletes. Wayne joins teammates Francis Mauigoa and Riley Williams as IMG Academy products to commit to the Hurricanes. He is the third defensive recruit for Miami.

The Hurricanes enter the top 10 in the country for their 2023 recruiting cycle, sitting at No. 8 on 247Sport’s list.
