Jayden Reed is the Lone Bright Spot for Michigan State Football

On a team that simply looks awful, Jayden Reed seems to be the only Spartan shining as of late. Reed, Michigan State’s star wide receiver, appears to be the only one showing up for the Spartans during their recent four game losing streak. This past Saturday, he put his skills on display by catching four passes for 67 yards and a touchdown. While four receptions may not look like much on the surface, Jayden Reed averaged a fantastic 16.8 yards per catch against the Buckeyes. What makes Reed’s performance even more impressive, is that the Spartan offense looks incapable of moving the ball most of the time. So, every defense that Michigan State faces knows that priority number one is stopping Jayden Reed.

Prior to Saturday’s game against Ohio State, Jayden Reed had the opportunity to dazzle fans in a road matchup with the Maryland Terrapins. The Terp’s defense did an excellent job of containing the Spartan’s offense throughout the day, only surrendering 13 points to Michigan State. However, Reed was still able to make his presence felt as he went off for seven receptions for 61 yards and a touchdown. Reed, once again, was able to total over 60 receiving yards, while also finding the end zone.

    Conclusion:

All in all, Jayden Reed has been able to show why he had such large expectations coming into his Senior year at Michigan State. The pride of Naperville, IL, close to Chicago, has been electrifying for the Spartans this season. Reed has accumulated 23 receptions for 256 receiving yards and two touchdowns, over the course of the five games he has played this season. Reed’s start to this season has not been as incredible as his season was last year. In his Junior season for the Spartans, Jayden Reed totaled 59 receptions for 1,026 yards with 10 TDs. However, a massive reason for the drop in Reed’s production is likely that he doesn’t have another great wide receiver, like Jalen Nailor, on the team to draw defenses away from him. Nonetheless, Jayden Reed has shown that he is the lone bright spot for this porous Michigan State football team.
