When New York Giants training camp opened up on Wednesday, head coach Brian Daboll announced that Russell Wilson will be the starting quarterback to start the 2025 season. There will be no competition for now, but that doesn’t mean something could transpire at the position later on in the year.

For now, despite being the third string quarterback on the depth chart, rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart will have all eyes on him in his development. He was the 25th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft from the Ole Miss Rebels after the Giants traded up from the 34th pick in the second round for that pick. They made the deal with the Houston Texans. Dart will be getting a lot of reps during training camp and preseason games as well.
NFL Analyst Makes Interesting Comments About New York Giants Rookie Quarterback Jaxson Dart

Ian O’Connor, who an NFL writer for The Athletic, made some interesting comments about New York’s rookie quarterback. He may not start many games for the Giants in 2025, but there is a chance that he is the long-term starter for this franchise. There is a chance that maybe he could provide Super Bowl glory to this franchise, but it feels like an eternity away.
O’Connor said in his latest column,
“Jaxson Dart just might be The One. The player who might finally save the New York Football Giants from themselves.
The quarterback who can match Eli Manning’s standing as the only two-time Super Bowl MVP in franchise history.
Why do I suggest this? As Dart sat in the shade after a hot and sunny opening day of his first NFL training camp, I asked him a question that I thought amounted to an uncontested layup.
Would you sign up for Eli’s two championship rings right now and call it a career, or would you decline to put that ceiling on your ambitions and just play it out?
I mean, what 22-year-old kid and 25th pick in the draft wouldn’t sign up for a pair of Super Bowl rings in advance?”
This is a very interesting question that O’Connor asked the former Rebels quarterback entering his rookie season in the NFL. Well, Dart would respond to him by saying,
“Eli is an incredible player. He’s a future Hall of Famer, and it would be a privilege to have a career like that. But if somebody asked me that question, I’m going to tell them I’m going to bet on myself. And I see a bright future here of us winning a lot of games and us playing at the highest level. I’m going to bet on myself with that answer.”
Well, Manning also played for Ole Miss in college before being drafted by the Giants. It has been hard for New York to replace him. They tried it with Daniel Jones, but it didn’t pan out. Hopefully, this franchise will develop Dart properly and have him as the long-term answer at quarterback.
There will be a lot of eyes on Dart during training camp and also in preseason action as well. Dart will not be starting for now, but if Wilson struggles early on in the season for the Giants, many fans may call for the rookie to be the starting quarterback sooner rather than later.
