The rumors of interest between coach James Franklin and the Virginia Tech Hokies has been circulating for a few weeks. However, we have gotten the two sides to agree to a contract on Monday afternoon as it was reported that an agreement has happened to give the Hokies their new coach. Let’s take a deeper dive into what this means going forward for the Virginia Tech Hokies.
James Franklin Becomes the New Virginia Tech Coach

ESPN’s Pete Thamel is reporting that the Virginia Tech Hokies have signed former Penn State Nittany Lions coach James Franklin to become the program’s next coach. While the contract details have not been released as of this writing, there is reason for excitement for the Hokies program going forward.
James Franklin is replacing a former coordinator of his as Brent Pry, who was fired earlier this season, was his defensive coordinator from 2016-2021. Franklin finished his tenure with the Nittany Lions with a 104-45 record since taking over in 2014. However, he was fired six games into the season. Overall, he boasts a 128-60 record and brought Penn State to the College Football Playoff last season.
Virginia Tech has not been able to figure out how to get much going throughout the season. The team is currently 3-7 and is tied for 100th in college football with 23.3 points per game. Their defense is 109th in the NCAA with 30.1 points per game given up.
This is a chance for the Hokies to step up and be competitive in the Atlantic Coast Conference as they are struggling to build a significant roster. With a great coach in Franklin leading the charge and being able to recruit well throughout his tenure, it will be intriguing to see how the Virginia Tech Hokies look going forward.
