The Virginia Tech Hokies made some massive news by hiring former Penn State coach James Franklin this week. While he has been able to do well in his previous spots, some people are very excited about the hire. Let’s take a closer look at one college football analyst that is excited about James Franklin’s newest landing spot and how he believes he was looking at the possibility of one major school before signing on with Virginia Tech.
Booger McFarland Excited About James Franklin Hire

On a recent edition of ‘Pardon My Take‘, ESPN NFL and college football analyst Booger McFarland explained that he loves the hiring of James Franklin by the Virginia Tech Hokies. He also mentions how he believes Franklin was waiting to see if one major job opened up before taking the Hokies coaching position.
“I think if you’re James Franklin, the only other job he was looking at was Florida State. After Florida State won this past weekend, James got the inclination that Florida State wasn’t gonna open up, so he took Virginia Tech. I love it. James has coached in that area. Penn State’s not too far from Virginia. He’s recruited in that area. That’s where his base is. That part of the country. If you think about it, he was in Nashville, TN. He goes to Pennsylvania and now he’s at Virginia Tech. That area of the country, he understands very well. He knows the high school players and knows all about the area.
“I think it’s a perfect fit, and the SEC is not built for everybody. James has been in the SEC with Vanderbilt and won 8-9 games so he could be successful, but I just think he feels like it’s a better fit for he and his family in Blacksburg. And quite frankly, I can’t wait to see James Franklin in the tunnel when they play ‘Enter Sandman.'”
Franklin has been a winning coach as in 15 years, he has a 128-60 record. He also made a bowl game every year he has coached (not including the 2020 season). It will be intriguing to see how Franklin looks as the new coach of the Hokies program.
