James Cook, running back, needs to prove that he’s still got it if he wants to play long-term with the Buffalo Bills, according to the team’s general manager, Brandon Beane. Beane spoke to Tyler Dunne from ‘Go Long’ and mentioned how the team hoped to see Cook training with the other players soon. He also remarked that Cook needed to up his performance if he wants to see anything long-term with the Bills.
Cook has been playing for the Buffalo Bills since 2022 after being picked as the 63rd pick in the second round of the draft. Before stepping foot into the NFL, Cook played college football for the Georgia Bulldogs from 2018 to 2021. In the 2024 NFL season, Cook contributed a total of 207 carries for 1,009 yards, scoring 16 touchdowns for the team.
“You’d love for everyone to be here. Who wouldn’t? You’d love them to be around and start forming that bond. But James is working. I know he’s down there training in South Florida. He’s working. First of all, he’s competitive. And sure, everyone wants to get paid and he knows he’s got to still show he’s James Cook — the guy we saw — if he wants to get that pay day. Either from us or someone else. That’s any player that doesn’t currently have their contract extensions yet.” Brandon Beane said to Tyler Dunne via NBC Sports.
James Cook is currently in the final year of his contract with the Buffalo Bills. If he wants to prove himself irreplaceable for the Bills, he will definitely need to try and improve their overall record in the upcoming NFL season. In the 2024 NFL season, the Bills were favorites and finished at the top of the AFC East with 13 wins. However, they lost in the AFC championship against the Kansas City Chiefs and exited the tournament.

James Cook’s Buffalo Bills Sign Elijah Moore For $5 Million
Meanwhile, James Cook’s team seems to be trying their best to boost their offense ahead of the upcoming NFL season. As per recent reports, the Bills have signed wide receiver Elijah Moore in a one-year deal for a sum of $5 million.

Moore is expected to immensely help quarterback Josh Allen in the Buffalo Bills. In the 2024 NFL season, Moore played for the Cleveland Browns and managed a total of 61 receptions for 538 yards, scoring a single touchdown for the team.
