The New York Giants turned heads last season when they added Drew Lock to their roster on a one-year deal worth $5 million. He was expected to compete with Daniel Jones for the QB1 position.
Instead, he was relegated to backup duties until Jones was released during the season. Lock wound up appearing in eight games and starting in five, throwing for 1,071 yards, six touchdowns, and five interceptions. He went 1-4 with the Giants.
New York apparently made a similar move when they signed Jameis Winston to a two-year deal worth $8 million.
The New York Giants are in the mix for Russell Wilson

Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Giants remain in the hunt for another veteran quarterback this offseason.
“Per multiple sources, (Russell) Wilson remains on the Giants’ radar screen — even after the signing of Jameis Winston,” Florio wrote. “It came up because, frankly, we removed the Giants from the list of teams looking for veteran quarterbacks.
“In response to our assessment that the Giants won’t be pursuing another veteran signal-caller, one source explained that Winston was signed to be the backup quarterback. And that Wilson should not be ruled out.”
Per Florio, the Giants are more interested in signing a veteran starting quarterback than the Cleveland Browns, who had Winston on their roster in 2024.
Aaron Rodgers is in the mix too

The Giants are still looking at signing Aaron Rodgers, but they don’t think they can land him.
“The source added that the Giants technically remain in the mix for Aaron Rodgers, but that it currently ‘seems unlikely’ he’ll go there. (Or, even more technically, stay there.),” Florio wrote.
The Giants already re-signed Tommy DeVito this season. If they add another veteran quarterback, it would be unlikely that New York will take a quarterback in the first round of the 2025 draft.
