Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase has been one of the top players in the NFL as he has been electric when healthy. When talking to the assembled media today after practice, he did not hold back on what he felt about the Kansas City Chiefs defense.
#Bengals WR Ja'Marr Chase on what stands out with the #Chiefs defense:
"If I'm being honest, nothing. … It’s not really like they got a Jalen Ramsey on their squad.”

While he is not expected to play in the Week 17 game against the Kansas City Chiefs, Ja’Marr Chase has made it known that he does not believe this defense can slow him down. Chase has been dealing with a shoulder injury and was forced to miss Week 16.
Despite the injury to quarterback Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase has still put up outstanding numbers. So far this season, he has 93 receptions on 132 targets for 1,156 yards (12.4 yards per catch) with seven touchdown receptions. He is 12th in catches, 10th in receiving yards, and tied for 11th in the NFL in touchdown receptions.
It will be interesting to see if he can play in this game and how he does against the Kansas City Chiefs’ defense. Entering Week 17, the Chiefs are second in total yards allowed (287.3) and third in passing yards given up (173.8) so this would be an interesting test.
Will Ja’Marr Chase calling out the Kansas City Chiefs defense come back to bite him?
While Ja’Marr Chase is one of the best wide receivers in the entire sport, calling out one of the best defensive teams in the entire league is not a good idea. A big reason why is this is a classic example of bulletin board material. The Bengals are 10th in the AFC and need to win to have a chance to make the playoffs as they are in a four-way tie with the Indianapolis Colts, Houston Texans and Pittsburgh Steelers.
With a putrid 3-7 record against AFC opponents, they cannot afford to lose and now the Kansas City Chiefs, who have been reeling lately, have a chance to lock in on shutting Chase down. With an inexperienced quarterback like Jake Browning who is posting a pedestrian 53.2 QBR so far, the less pressure and that seems to be the better situation.
Ja’Marr Chase has played two regular season games in his career against the Chiefs and dominated as he is averaging nine receptions for 181.5 yards with 1.5 touchdowns, it still is not a great look for a team that needs to win this game.
