Jalen Carter Credits Vic Fangio as Improved Conditioning Sparks His Surge

Jalen Carter’s late-season surge has officially become one of the Eagles’ biggest defensive storylines. The former first-rounder is stacking his best football of 2025, and the timing couldn’t be better with Dallas on deck. His dominance was evident against Detroit, as well as in every snap, forcing coordinators to adjust their protections. He looks more explosive than he did in September, and the staff knows exactly why. Even the team’s Defensive Coordinator noticed this progress, and our Carter couldn’t agree more.

X post by Zach Berman reads, “Jalen Carter on Vic Fangio pointing out that Carter’s performance has elevated in recent weeks with better health and conditioning: ‘Whatever Vic says is right. He keeps it real with it, y’all. He keeps it 100. I feel better. Working on my conditioning. It’s showing up.”

Jalen Carter and Vic Fangio’s Alignment  Powered the Eagles’ Defensive Rise

Vic Fangio laid it out clearly this week. He said Carter’s conditioning and overall health have taken a significant step forward, and the tape backs up his claim. Earlier in the season, Carter dealt with a nagging heel issue that put him on the injury report and kept him inactive for the Giants game. That setback slowed his burst and limited his lower-body power. It also showed up in the box score through the Eagles’ 1–2 start, he logged just one tackle and two quarterback hits, a quiet stretch that reflected how restricted he really was.

But once the heel improved and the conditioning load ramped up, his game opened back up instantly.

That’s why November looks different. Against Detroit on November 16, Carter posted a career-high in tackles and knocked down passes at the line. The Eagles held their second straight high-scoring offense to single digits, and Carter’s energy pushed the front into takeover mode. He played with force. He played with confidence. And the rest of the line fed off it.

Teammates have noticed how much easier their jobs become when Carter controls the interior. Jaelan Phillips said his sack was the direct result of Carter flattening Lions guard Tate Ratledge. Moro Ojomo’s four sacks through ten games also trace back to the attention Carter draws. When he collapses, others clean up after him. That’s been a steady theme during this surge.

Meanwhile, the connection at the front continues to grow. Jordan Davis said the room plays harder because they trust each other fully. Carter echoed that. He talked about how fun it’s been to run stunts, swap responsibilities mid-play, and still stay disciplined. That kind of chemistry shows up snap after snap.

Now everything shifts toward Dallas. The Eagles won the Week 1 opener, but Carter never saw the field after being ejected pre-snap. This time, he’s healthy, conditioned, and carrying his best rhythm of the year. Dallas brings a fast, high-powered offense at home, and the interior will be tested. Yet Carter’s current form fits exactly what Philadelphia needs. His burst is back. His stamina is up. And the timing couldn’t be better.

Fangio called it weeks ago. Better conditioning. Better health. A sharper version of Jalen Carter lifting everyone around him. With the NFC East tightening, his surge arrives at the perfect moment.
