Jakorian Bennett, NFL cornerback’s recent trade from the Las Vegas Raiders to the Philadelphia Eagles has got everyone talking. The trade was finalized on Monday with the Raiders sending Bennett to the Eagles in return for defensive tackle, Thomas Booker IV. However, not everyone is happy with Bennet leaving the Raiders, especially since the talented player managed to have a breakthrough season last time out.

Bennett’s trade to the Raiders brought out a strong reaction from The Athletic’s Ted Nguyen, who admitted that he simply does not “like this trade”. Bennett joined the Raiders back in 2023 after being bagged in the fourth round of the draft. With the cornerback making steady progress upwards, his trade to the Eagles definitely came as a surprise.
“Never trade with Howie. I get that Bennett doesn’t fit the Carroll profile but he was so productive last season and is so young. Don’t like this trade,” Ted Nguyen tweeted from his X account about Jakorian Bennett’s trade to the Eagles.

Ted Nguyen’s reference to Howie Roseman, vice-president of the Philadelphia Eagles, calls back to his habit of bringing in young players who are talented and adaptable, especially those who may not have got their deserved fighting chance with their former teams. Jakorian Bennett is definitely among the lucky ones, since it seems like the Eagles will be a better space for the young cornerback to show off his skills.
Jakorian Bennett Traded Because He Didn’t Suit Pete Carroll’s Coaching Style
Jakorian Bennett’s trade definitely came as a shock to everyone, but those who understand NFL coaches and how they work will probably side with Las Vegas’ move. After a disastrous 2024 NFL season, the Raiders brought in veteran head coach Pete Carroll to shape the team for the next season.
Like every coach has their own criteria when it comes to players, Pete Carroll, too, has his criteria for his cornerbacks. It is known that Carroll likes his cornerbacks to be tall and versatile, which Bennett unfortunately cannot match at 5 ’11”. In the training camp, Bennett, although talented, was getting overshadowed by others like Eric Stokes, who towered over him.

It was not only a one-sided affair all the time, since the young cornerback was also unable to perform to Carroll’s expectations and was clearly struggling. Perhaps Bennett may find better pastures in the Philadelphia Eagles roster, where he may be allowed to shine in the upcoming football season.
