Jahmyr Gibbs, running back for the Detroit Lions, recently opened up on his decision to change his jersey number from ‘26’ to ‘0’. Gibbs announced his decision to change his jersey number sometime back, and a lot of NFL fans have been dissecting it as to what the number actually means to the 23-year-old University of Alabama product.
Gibbs, when asked by Detroit Lions reporter Eric Woodyard, revealed that the number ‘0’ definitely did not have any special meaning behind it, and that he simply chose it because he could not get the number ‘1’.
“I hated 26. When I was drafted, all that was available was 26, 33, 35, stuff like that, so I went with 26. As soon as I was able to change it, I changed it. I wanted one, [but] Jamo [Jameson Williams] got one, so zero was right next to it. There’s no special meaning behind it.” Jahmyr Gibbs revealed as reported by Eric Woodyard, when asked about his decision to change his jersey number.
#Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs hosted his camp at Novi HS and spoke to ESPN exclusively about switching his jersey from No. 26 to No. 0. Gibbs said he hated 26, but was scared of rocking 0 at first. “I didn’t want it to look bad. I didn’t want the 0 to be too big or too small,” he said. pic.twitter.com/ZuBw3nTAoA

No matter what jersey number he plays with, Jahmyr Gibbs knows only too well that his services are crucial for the Detroit Lions in the upcoming season. Gibbs and the rest of the Lions have been training hard, hoping to do better in the 2025 season to ensure that they make it past the playoffs.

Apart from Gibbs, the Lions will be learning on quarterback Jared Goff to lead their offense. Gibbs and wide receiver Jameson Williams, along with D.J. Reed will also be essential players in the Lions roster for the upcoming NFL season.
Jahmyr Gibbs Opens Up On Massive Bet With Amon-Ra St. Brown
On another note, Jahmyr Gibbs has plenty more incentive to do well in the upcoming football season with the Detroit Lions. As reported by Eric Woodyard, Gibbs has an ongoing bet with his teammate, wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, to get both 1,000 receiving yards and 1,000 rushing yards in the next NFL season.

If Gibbs manages these numbers, St. Brown is due to buy him “anything”. Gibbs mentioned to Woodyard that the wide receiver will be getting him “a house”. St. Brown, who has been with the Detroit Lions since 2021, is not anything less than himself.

In the previous football season, the younger brother of Equanimeous St. Brown, managed an impressive 115 receptions of his own, scoring 12 touchdowns. Perhaps this new challenge that St. Brown has set with Gibbs will blow up the running back’s numbers with the Lions.
