The Jacksonville Jaguars finally got their first win of the season Sunday, as they beat the Indianapolis Colts 37-34 at home with a field goal walk-off. A much-needed win for the Jags as they now gain some momentum as they prepare for back-to-back games in London. It was a wet, grey, rainy Sunday but that didn’t stop the Jags as Trevor Lawrence threw for two touchdowns, and running back Tank Bigsby ran for two more touchdowns in their victory over the Colts.
The Colts did attempt to make a comeback, as they rallied from a 14-point deficit, but ultimately they came up short as rookie kicker Cam Little called the game with a 49-yard field goal at the very end to pull this win out for his team. A big win after the team’s slow start to the season here’s what we noticed.
Jacksonville Jaguars Quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s Thoughts On Sunday’s Big Win
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence had this to say after Sunday’s victory over the Indianapolis Colts.“It feels good to win, It’s why you play the game. It feels good to win. It feels good for the hard work to pay off. It’s cool when it all clicks and pays off and you get the chance to win. We’re going to use it to propel us.”
The Jags win their 10th consecutive home game against the Colts, who haven’t won in Jacksonville since 2014. Trevor Lawrence completed 28 of 34 passes for 371 yards and two touchdowns with just one interception, with an 85-yard touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. giving the Jaguars a 10-7 lead in the second quarter. Lawrence also threw a fourth-quarter touchdown pass to tight end Brenton Strange.
The Indianapolis Colts Started To Heat Up, But It Was To Late
A big contributor to the issues we saw in the secondary was the Colts struggling to get after Trevor Lawrence allowing him and the Jags to pretty much do whatever they want. Given all of the injuries along the defensive front, this was to be expected somewhat, but when a defense that is built around winning up front isn’t doing that, it’s going to struggle. The Jaguars also did well to use play-action, screens, and the quick pass game to limit the Indianapolis Colts pass rush. The only thing that kept the Colts in the game was the deep ball. The downfield four-quarter pass attempts from Joe Flacco to Alec Pierce brought the Colts back into the game. On just three catches, Alec Pierce totaled 134 yards and a touchdown while setting up another one. Before that… quiet. For most of the game, the Colts were conservative in the passing game before finally coming alive too late in the end ultimately costing them.
The Colts Look Forward to the upcoming weeks ahead heading into Nashville this coming weekend for another divisional matchup with the 1-3 Titans who are coming off of a bye week so they’ll be well-rested and prepared.
