It’s no secret the Jacksonville Jaguars aren’t doing so well for the past few weeks. Their poor start, however, has placed head coach Doug Pederson‘s job in danger as the team continues to flounder.
The Jaguars are grappling with a troubling 0-4 start to the season, leading to concerns about Pederson’s influence within the locker room. Reports indicate that the support for Pederson among players is waning, with insiders suggesting that the atmosphere has become disheartening and disorganized.
The Jaguars have lost nine of their last ten games, raising alarm bells about quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s performance. After signing a massive $275 million extension, his struggles—averaging under 200 passing yards per game—are particularly concerning. Compounding the issue, the team’s defense has been ineffective, giving up significant yardage and points.
Owner Shad Khan previously stated that this roster is the best the Jaguars have ever had, emphasizing that winning is the expectation for the 2024 season. However, the current performance does not align with those aspirations, leading to speculation about Pederson’s future. Following a humiliating loss to the Buffalo Bills, it was reported that Khan was deeply frustrated, indicating that management’s patience may be wearing thin.

“We can argue all we want about whose fault this is, but the facts are that Pederson is supposed to be the kind of coach who develops quarterbacks and runs a top-level offense. Lawrence isn’t developing, and this offense is not very good. The Jaguars are 26th in offensive expected points added this season. So, fair or not, the blame falls on the coach in this league before it falls on the quarterback who just got extended at $55 million per year.
Pederson has moved to the front of the hot seat line. And while we don’t have any information to indicate that he’s in any imminent trouble, if the Jaguars keep losing, this is the kind of situation where ownership decides it has to make some sort of change at some point. That could mean at the end of the season or even possibly sooner. The Jags have a home game against the Colts in Week 5 then back-to-back London games against the Bears and the Patriots. This is their get-right stretch, and they need to take advantage of it,” Graziano wrote.
Although there is no clear indication that Pederson is coaching for his job in the upcoming game against the Indianapolis Colts, the pressure is mounting. Given how the Jags have performed during the past weeks, the team must change things up a bit to get out of the hole they’re currently in.
Should the Jaguars fall to 0-5, it would be difficult to envision how Pederson could remain in his position much longer. As the situation unfolds, the Jaguars must find a way to turn their season around before it spirals further out of control.
