REPORT: The Jacksonville Jaguars Activate Key Defender After Recovering from an Injury That Limited Him to 12 Games in 2023

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed Arik Armstead to a 3-year contract worth up to $51 million. Armstead, a former first-round pick from 2015, spent the first nine seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers released him because both parties couldn’t agree to a revised contract.

They also released him because he couldn’t stay healthy as of late. He is recovering from an injury.

Arik Armstead missed the last five regular-season games with a foot injury and a torn right meniscus. He returned for the postseason and played their three playoff games. He underwent surgery in February.

Armstead missed spring workouts. The Jaguars placed him on the active/PUP list before training camp started, and he missed the first three weeks of camp, including their first preseason game. Doug Pederson wasn’t concerned about his status heading into training camp.

“He’s played a ton of football — [he is a] veteran player. I don’t have a lot of concern with it. I want to make sure guys like that,” Pederson said July 24. “We brought them here to help us, but at the same time we’ve got make sure they’re healthy before we put them on the field.

“He knows what it takes. I’ve seen him during OTAs, I’ve seen him even while he was here during our little three days with the rookies and just how he’s kind of another coach right now on the field until he gets ready to go. That’s invaluable — that’s gold out there on the field.”

According to Field Yates of ESPN, the Jaguars activated Armstead off the PUP list. The team expects him to return to the practice field on Wednesday when they host the Buccaneers for joint practices.
