Jacksonville Jaguars: Make $14 Million Decision on 1st Pick

NFL teams like the Jacksonville Jaguars have until May 1 to exercise or decline the fully guaranteed 5th-year options of the first-round picks from the 2022 NFL Draft class for the 2026 season. 5th-year options are determined based on four unique tiers, including basic, playtime, one Pro Bowl, and multiple Pro Bowls. Over The Cap goes through each tier in further detail.

The Jaguars selected two players in the first round, and they have less than one month to make their decision on both players.

The Jacksonville Jagurs No.1 pick is categorized in tier 2

Since Travon Walker played over 50% of snaps in each of his first three seasons, his 5th-year option is categorized under tier 2, the playtime tier. Tier 2 is worth $14.751 million for the 2026 season. Walker has developed into a reliable pass rusher and complement to Josh Hines-Allen, recording 162 tackles, 28 TFLs, 44 QB hits, and 24 sacks.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Jaguars officially exercised Travon Walker’s 5th-year option. As a result, he will be under contract through 2026.

They are working on a contract extension

As previously discussed on Gridiron Heroics, Head Coach Liam Coen told the media during the annual NFL League Meetings that they will prioritize an extension on Travon Walker this offseason. Coen went on to say they have had a number of good and productive conversations with Walker.

“Yeah, we’re having open conversations,” Coen said via Zak Gilbert of Sports Illustrated.“And at the end of the day, we’ll continue to have those. James and Tony and I will have those conversations as we go, for sure.”
