“It Starts With the Run Defense”: Cincinnati Bengals Urged To Draft Clemson Tigers DT Peter Woods In 2026 NFL Draft

The Cincinnati Bengals finished with an 6-11 record last season and they will be drafting 10th overall in the 2026 NFL Draft. Cincinnati’s issue over the last couple of seasons has been the defensive side of the football. The Bengals decided not to fire Zac Taylor as head coach after missing the playoffs for the third straight season.

With Cincinnati potentially projected to lose Trey Hendrickson in free agency, they are going to have to address the defensive side of the football in the 2026 NFL Draft. One player that could be on the board for the Bengals to draft is Clemson Tigers defensive tackle Peter Woods. Woods is no doubt projected to go in the Top 15 in this year’s draft.

Profootballfocus.com writer Josh Liskiewitz wrote a potential mock draft for the Bengals in 2026. He suggests that Cincinnati drafts Woods from Clemson with the 10th overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft. Liskiewitz said,

It starts with run defense for the Bengals, and that is the hallmark of Woods’ game. A three-year standout at Clemson, he graded positively on a remarkably consistent 25.3% of all run plays. While his pass-rush production dipped in 2025, he posted win rates north of 14.0% in each of the previous two seasons.”

Woods is 6’3″ and weighs 315 lbs. He recorded 30 tackles, two sacks, and one pass deflection for Clemson this past season. Cincinnati will only have five picks in the 2026 NFL Draft. There is a very good chance that the Bengals draft all defensive players. Woods would be a very good selection for this defense. He is going to anchor any defensive line right away. They drafted Shemar Stewart in the first-round last year and the Bengals cannot mess up its first-round selection again this season.
