It’s the End of the Bryan Harsin Era. Bryan Harsin is returning to the drawing board after 16 games as the football coach at Auburn. This is failing, he better finds some solutions right away.
Harsin’s Immense Downfall
Will Harsin have his coaching duties terminated before the season is over? It’s absolutely, the main question on everyone’s mind right now. All bets are off as to Harsin’s immediate future in light of the events of Saturday. The coup attempt by Harsin had many faults. Following the previous season, there were numerous attempts to tarnish the reputations of him, his family, and Auburn athletics as a whole. It was shameful to see how the attempts to fire Harsin without justification, launch an investigation into the program and pressure him to leave all played out. Regardless of how early doubts about his coaching abilities, that part of Auburn football was incorrect. However, after Saturday, there won’t need to be any malicious rumors or unethical behavior needed as threats, if things don’t drastically change in the following two weeks. Struggles on the field and difficulties recruiting will be too much to ignore.
Sixteen games into his tenure as Auburn’s football coach, Bryan Harsin is starting over. He had better come up with some solutions right away because this isn’t working. After Auburn (2-1) put on its worst performance of his tenure in a 41-12 loss at home to No. 23 Penn State (3-0) on Saturday. Harsin vowed to reevaluate the quarterback rotation. “You re-evaluate the plan if the plan doesn’t work,” Harsin advised. The quarterback spot is just the start. Harsin promised to review the depth chart, play-calling, strategies, and practice schedules. After the humiliation that was on display last Saturday in Jordan-Hare Stadium, nothing should be sacred. Three weeks into the 2022 campaign, it appears that Auburn is still in the offseason phase. Bryan Harsin clearly isn’t a fit for the SEC and should be absolutely embarrassed to walk the streets in Auburn after that showing against Penn State.
Is There Any Hope for Harsin?
As one of Bryan Harsin’s most avid supporters during his time at this organization, seeing Penn State empty Jordan-Hare Stadium by the third quarter was like seeing light for the first time. Bryan Harsin is the first person to change in order for anything to change. I’m not saying that Harsin’s time at Auburn is over just yet, but I believe the question is not “if” but “when” he will be let go. I believe the harm has been done, and recovery will be difficult. There is undoubtedly work for Harsin somewhere, possibly on the west coast, perhaps Arizona State. I would be surprised if boosters have not already contacted or gauged the interest of potential coaching candidates. At Auburn, things have always been that way. That not being the current state is unimaginable to me.
The football program is run by boosters. Their first move was to force athletic director Allen Greene to step down. One of Bryan Harsin’s biggest backers, Greene, is rumored to have stated that he was forced to resign because he retained Bryan Harsin as the head coach during the offseason. The next step will be to fire Harsin as head coach and start looking for a replacement right away. I think Auburn has already moved on from Bryan Harsin; it’s not “if” but “when.”
The Final Breakdown
The loss to Penn State was extremely demoralizing and a complete embarrassment to the entire football program at Auburn University. Bryan Harsin should be ashamed of that horrid performance; he isn’t built for the SEC. Paul Finebaum said this about Bryan Harsin “The next coach will understand the SEC, unlike Harsin.” We’re once again going to watch an Auburn coach walk away with millions in his pocket from a buyout. The Harsin era was a complete and utter failure. It’s time to bite the bit on Harsin and sink the damn ship. I think the only way Harsin keeps his job is if he goes on to win 9 games this season, and judging by the Tigers’ recent performances and the schedule ahead, that’s a very slim chance.
