Quinnen Williams has arguably been the best player on a Jets defense that has been sneaky good the last few years. One of the more overlooked storylines in the NFL this offseason has been about a potential contract extension with the Jets. He has been one of the better defensive tackles in the league since entering the league, ranking sixth among interior defensive linemen in sacks and fifth in stops. A good amount of Williams’ work doesn’t show on the basic stat sheet, which includes pressures to the QB and QB hits.
What does this have to do with him being a Pro Bowler for the Jets?
Williams will be in his second year in second year coach Robert Saleh’s defensive system. This should allow Williams to play freely inside. With Carl Lawson and CJ Mosley coming back from injury-riddled seasons, the Jets defense should be much improved heading into 2022. In addition to those two coming back, the Jets drafted defensive end Jermaine Johnson II with the 26th overall pick in this year’s draft. They also will move veteran John Franklin Myers to add to an already vaunted front seven unit. In Williams’ case, he would need to be more consistent in making usual stops as he has had the tendency to go for big hits, according to his 44.2 overall grade from Pro Football Focus.
In terms of Pro Bowl players from the Jets this season , Zach Wilson has a long way to go, especially in the turnover department. Corey Davis could very well be on his way to a Pro Bowl campaign if injuries don’t get in the way of him being Wilson’s favorite target and he bounces back from an underwhelming. The biggest question mark among Pro Bowl selections is whether linebacker CJ Mosley can bounce back to being the four time Pro Bowler he was earlier in his career.
