Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is one of the more recognizable figures in the NFL. He does not lack confidence and is one of the premier young quarterbacks in the league today. The 6-foot-6 and 225-pound Lawrence is highly competitive and has a big future ahead of himself. The question is can he live up to the expectations and be an elite quarterback?
Coming out of Clemson University Lawrence was drafted first overall in the 2021 NFL Draft by Jacksonville. A lot of expectations were placed upon him to have a big year and save the franchise. While we have yet to see if he will save the franchise he had a good rookie campaign. He was 359-602 passing for a 59.6 completion %. His 13 touchdowns were third among rookie quarterbacks in 2021, his 359 completions were also third, and he was fifth in both completion % and QBR with a 71.9. Lawrence also threw 17 interceptions.
He was not picked first overall for nothing. Lawrence has a lot of potential and can play in this league. He throws a heavy ball and has the patience to wait for an open receiver. Lawrence is always optimistic and leads by example, something you want your quarterback to have. Does he have the pedigree to lead the Jaguars to the playoffs and one day a Lombardi trophy? He does have all of the skills that one should possess to be a successful quarterback in the NFL. Trevor Lawrence is skilled but what about the skill around him?
A quarterback can be the most skilled player in the league though he does need weapons and support to be successful. The Jaguars do have that young talent that will be in the locker room for years to come. Aside from Lawrence, there are running backs Travis Etienne Jr, James Robinson, Snoop Conner, and wide receiver Christian Kirk. Those weapons, along with a promising defense, has Jacksonville as one of the top young teams in the NFL.
In the division, they have the Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts, and Houston Texans. Nonetheless, there are tougher divisions in the league this one is going to be a dog fight. The Jaguars have the recipe to be a successful franchise in the near future and could win the division sooner than later.
With 13 touchdowns in 18 career games, Lawrence has done a great job with the weapons he has. With success will come opportunities for other star offensive players to want to sign in Jacksonville. While this group is young and talented it could use some additional firepower.
Trevor Lawrence has success written all over him. He has size, throws an extraordinary ball, has talent around him, and is confident in his abilities. Lawrence has cemented himself as the Jaguar’s starting quarterback and now the time is his. Entering his second season he is now aware of what the league brings to the table, making him able to adapt to situations better than before. With all of the potential in the world, he has All-Pro, Pro Bowl, and league MVP in the future.
The kid is talented and has a satisfactory supporting cast. This young group makes each other better by focusing on the tasks at hand and playing football. Trevor Lawrence is going to be a good one and has the chance to be the best quarterback in the league sooner than later.
