Iowa Hawkeyes linebacker Jack Campbell enters his senior year with a mountain of hype. The laundry list of preseason watch lists Campbell appears on tells you experts are expecting big things from him this fall.
The Hawkeyes have produced a string of high-profile linebackers with NFL upside. Not since Josey Jewell has one entered a season with such high expectations as Campbell. Just look at the recognition that is piling up for him this preseason.
Campbell’s Preseason Recognition
Campbell and teammate Riley Moss are on the watch list for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, awarded to the nation’s best defensive player. This is not the only award watchlist to feature multiple Hawkeyes. Remember that piece about Iowa having the best linebackers in the Big Ten Conference? Campbell is on the Dick Butkus Award watch list along with Jestin Jacobs and Seth Benson. The award is given to the nation’s best linebacker. Sounds like Iowa has a true triple threat.
Triple Threat.

It does not stop there. Campbell is on the Lott IMPACT Trophy preseason list. This award is a little different from the other in that it recognizes a player for his off-field work as well as what he does on the gridiron. He is a preseason All American as selected by college football guru Phil Steele, and a preseason All-Big Ten selection.
What to Expect from Campbell
The scouting report on Campbell is glowing, regarding him as one of the best returning linebackers in college football. His physical traits, such as his size, speed, length and agility, make him the type of player any team would covet to man the middle of the field. His execution only makes him even more viable for NFL teams.
Pro Football Network regards him as a prolific “tackling machine” who is well on his way up NFL big boards. NFL Draft Buzz touts his tenacity toward making plays between the tackles. While his coach Kirk Ferentz raves about him, the praise comes from throughout the conference.
