A model of consistency in the world of college football necessitates the ability to land the best players from around the country. The Iowa Hawkeyes have made strides in continuing to do so, with another three-star recruit verbally committing to the team on Thursday.
Kenneth Merrieweather, an edge rusher from Detroit, announced in a Tweet that he has decided to commit to Iowa. He marks the third edge rusher this year to commit to the school’s 2023 recruiting class.

Meet the Iowa Hawkeyes’ Newest Recruit
Kenneth Merrieweather (6-3, 245) is a product of Martin Luther King High School based in Detroit, Michigan. 247Sports ranks him the 50th best edge rusher recruit in the country, as well as the 14th ranked recruit in the state of Michigan. His three-star potential will no doubt add to Iowa’s reputation for stellar defensive units.
What made the Iowa Hawkeyes stand out so much in this recruit’s mind? Per an interview with Hawkeye Report, Merrieweather had this to say about his experience in a visit in April:
“I appreciate the care they took for us on the visit. Iowa City itself is what makes it really stand out. . . [Iowa defensive line coach Kelvin] Bell is a good coach and a great person to have a relationship with outside of sports.”
Kenneth joins other prospects such as five-star recruit Kadyn Proctor and fellow three-star recruit Zach Ortwerth, both of whom committed to Iowa in the last week. This brings the total number of verbal commitments for the school’s 2023 class to 16.
