The New York Jets drafted wide receiver Garrett Wilson from the Ohio State Buckeyes 10th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. Wilson just finished his third NFL season and was due for a contract extension.

Well, according to reports on Monday by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jets sign Wilson to a four-year $130 million extension and $90 million of it will be guaranteed. This was a huge deal for New York because they are trying to extend some of their core players to long-term deals. Cornerback Sauce Gardner is another player that the Jets are trying to extend before the 2025 NFL season begins as well.
NFL Fans React To the New York Jets Giving Wide Receiver Garrett Wilson a Contract Extension

It was smart for the Jets to give Wilson a contract extension now because he may have asked for money after the 2025 NFL season had they not given him a contract extension. Well, there are some NFL fans who think that the Jets overpaid for him and made some other interesting comments as well. This is what some fans had to say about it on Twitter:
Insane overpay

Resigning for the Jets at WR is career suicide- why they had to over pay 🤣

Jets finally extended a first-rounder on time.
Might be the most impressive part of this whole deal.— Fantasy Dads (@Fantasy_Dads) July 14, 2025
A rare wise move by the Jets. He and Hall are the best offensive weapons they have.

During the 2024 season with New York, he caught 101 passes for 1,104 yards receiving, and seven touchdowns, along with averaging 10.9 yards per reception. Wilson was targeted 154 times. He is only 24 years old. Wilson caught passes from Aaron Rodgers during the 2024 season and he will be catching passes from former Buckeyes quarterback Justin Fields in 2025.
Wilson and Breece Hall are by far the two best offensive players on New York’s roster. It is a good thing that the Jets signed him to a contract extension. For the people who think Wilson was overpaid, they are going to be wrong in a few years from now.
