“This Place is Special”: Indianapolis Colts’ Free Agent Guard Eyes Return in 2025

The Indianapolis Colts offensive line could look different heading into next season. Indianapolis currently has three of their five ideal starting offensive linemen under contract, as two are free agents, but star right tackle Braden Smith could become a cap casualty because he has missed 12 games over the past two seasons and has a $19.75 million cap hit as they would free $16.75 million by cutting him. Also, Colts Pro Bowl center Ryan Kelly, who did not sign an extension last season, is a free agent, and he could depart as well.

Will Fries completed the final year of his 4-year, $3,565,375 rookie contract, which he signed during the 2021 offseason, and is set to hit free agency this offseason. Fries was on his way to having a breakout fourth season before a significant season-ending leg injury cut short his season. He suffered a fractured right tibia in Week 5 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

During an interview with Nate Atkins of the IndyStar, Will Fries expressed interest in returning to the Indianapolis Colts for the 2025 season. Fries also went on to say that Indianapolis is special to him because of the support he has received since coming in as a rookie and since taking over as a starter. Finally, he wants to repay them with his hard work.

“This place is special,” Fries said via Atkins of the IndyStar. “… From coming in here as a rookie with guys having my back when I didn’t play much and then getting an opportunity to start and then being able to start the year after that. There’s so many good people here.

“All I want to do is repay them with how hard I can work, playing the best I possibly can for those who believe in me and for my family and for myself. That’s what it’s meant to me to be here.”
