When the Indianapolis Colts selected quarterback Anthony Richardson with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, everyone thought that he was the future for the franchise. Through his first two years, he has looked nothing like a franchise quarterback.
Richardson has struggled to stay healthy. Even when he has been healthy, he has not played well.
Throughout his first two seasons in the NFL, Richardson has played in 15 total games. He has completed just 50.6 percent of his pass attempts for 2,391 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.
He has been a threat for the Colts on the ground. The 22-year-old signal caller has rushed for 635 yards and 10 touchdowns.
That being said, Indianapolis has been urged to make a shocking move to replace Richardson.
Indianapolis Colts Urged to Make Shocking Move for 81-TD Anthony Richardson Replacement
Ayrton Ostly of USA Today has named the Colts as one of the top team fits for Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft.
“Indianapolis was the only team to rank in the top five league-wide in play-action pass attempts (148, fifth) and RPO plays (171) in 2024. That’d make for a very comfortable place for Dart as a rookie and present an off-ramp for the franchise if Richardson doesn’t do well enough in 2025.”
Dart is coming off of a strong 2024 season to round out his college career. He completed 69.3 percent of his passes for 4,279 yards, 29 touchdowns and six interceptions. In addition, he racked up another 495 yards and three scores on the ground.
This would be a very aggressive move, but Indianapolis has to be aggressive. If Chris Ballard and company want to get back on track both now and for years to come, finding a long-term quarterback should be a high priority.
It will be interesting to see what the Colts choose to do in the upcoming draft. Dart may not end up being a target for them, but he’s a name worth keeping a close eye on.
