The Indianapolis Colts have a new OC
The Indianapolis Colts are quickly piecing together a new staff. The Colts waited until after the Super Bowl to hire Shane Steichen as their head coach. Stechen was the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive coordinator last season. Steichen has found his new offensive coordinator for the 2023 campaign.
According to Jeremy Fowler with ESPN, the Colts are set to name Jim Bob Cooter as their offensive coordinator. He will come over from the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he was the pass-game coordinator. He has previous experience as an offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions.
Jim Bob Cooter is expected to be named offensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts, per sources. Last year’s pass-game coordinator with Jacksonville was former Lions OC, worked with quarterbacks Payton Manning, Matthew Stafford and Trevor Lawrence in the past.

Cooter was credited for helping the Lions make the 2016 playoffs with head coach Jim Caldwell and qualified Matthew Stafford. However, the Lions’ offensive success under Cooter would be short-lived. The Lions would make a franchise-defining blunder by firing Caldwell after the 2017 season, when they finished with a 9-7 record.
They hired the “rocket scientist” Matt Patricia and kept Cooter on as the offensive coordinator. But Cooter was fired after Patricia’s first season when the Lions went 6-10. The Lions’ offense was terrible from then until the 2022 season.
