The Indianapolis Colts may well be facing one of the worst injury situations in the National Football League right now. With the exception of the oft-lamented San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams, the Colts have sneakily built up quite a generous unavailable list themselves.
Indianapolis Colts’ Injuries Rapidly Piling Up
Star defensive tackle, DeForest Buckner; behemoth tight end, Jelani Woods; no.1 corner and second year pro, Juju Brents; guard, Will Fries; and defensive lineman Samson Ebukam and Tyquan Lewis have all landed on injured reserve within the first month of the new season.
And that does not even cover the other injured players who have also missed time, including prospective franchise qb, Anthony Richardson; All-Pro running back, Jonathan Taylor; Pro Bowl slot corner, Kenny Moore; defensive end, Kwity Paye; and longtime center and team captain, Ryan Kelly – all of whom have missed time already this season, and have questionable return dates.
So, with a massive 11 starting players out, surely it seems like the only way is up for the Colts, in terms of player availability?
Wrong!
Breaking news on Wednesday, courtesy of Jordan Schultz, confirms that Michael Pittman Jr.; Indianapolis’ #1 receiver, will miss significant time this season.
Breaking: #Colts star WR Michael Pittman Jr. has been dealing with a nagging back injury and he could be placed on IR, per multiple sources.
This was determined as the best course of action for Pittman, who would miss at least four games if put on IR. pic.twitter.com/NJ9jV2jARa

Michael Pittman Jr. Trending Towards Ending Up On IR
Despite the significant injuries to the front end of their roster and some very up-and-down play from QB, Anthony Richardson, the Colts have looked passable at worst this season.
In fact, despite holding a 2-3 record, the Colts hold the #2 position in the AFC South, and quite honestly could easily be 4-1 were it not for a Jaguars last minute field goal and an ultra closely fought contest against the Houston Texans ultimately going Houston’s way.
With the rejuvinated Joe Flacco starting in place of the developing Richardson, many believed that the Colts offense could be set to hit a new ceiling; particularly after Flacco’s immense 359 yard, 3 touchdown game against Jacksonville last Sunday.
The one fortunate thing for the Colts is that whilst any injuries to star players – especially ones who just signed large offseason contracts – is very sad, receiver is certainly one of Indy’s deeper positions, boasting the likes of impressive second year wideout, Josh Downs, rookie Adonai Mitchell, and 3rd year breakout star, Alec Pierce, who easily leads the team in receiving yards with a whopping 368 in the past 5 games.
